Myth vs Science

Roz suni jaane wali food baaton ko hum science ke saath check karte hain — myth kya hai, evidence kya kehta hai, aur BhojVigyan ka simple take kya hai. Har card par source aur reviewed date di gayi hai.

Carbs & Grains

Myth: Eating rice makes you gain weight.

What science says: No single food decides body weight on its own. Overall energy intake, portion sizes, activity and sleep matter far more than whether the grain on the plate is rice or wheat. Rice, like roti, is a source of carbohydrate; whole-grain options add more fibre.

Everyday Eating

Myth: Healthy eating means bowls, salads and smoothies.

What science says: Dietary guidance is about the overall pattern — enough vegetables, pulses/protein, whole grains and limited added sugar, salt and deep-fried food. Normal Indian home meals such as roti-sabzi, dal-rice, khichdi, poha or chilla can meet that pattern.

Myth: You cannot get enough protein on a vegetarian Indian diet.

What science says: Dals, rajma, chana, soy, paneer, curd, milk, peanuts and seeds all supply protein. Eating a variety of pulses and grains across the day generally covers the amino acids most people need.

Fats & Oils

Myth: Ghee must be removed completely from a healthy diet.

What science says: Ghee is a concentrated source of energy and saturated fat. Guidance is to keep total fat and saturated fat within moderate limits, not to declare any traditional fat forbidden. Very large amounts of any fat add up quickly in calories.

Hydration

Myth: Detox drinks and juices clean out toxins.

What science says: There is no good evidence that any drink 'detoxes' the body. The liver and kidneys already handle waste products. Fruit juices also concentrate sugar with less fibre than whole fruit.

Everyday Eating

Myth: Skipping dinner is a healthy shortcut.

What science says: Evidence on meal timing is mixed and highly individual. Skipping meals often leads to stronger hunger later and can make it harder to meet protein, fibre and micronutrient needs — particularly for children, older adults, pregnant women and people on medication.
